Moustafa Riad

Moustafa Riad is Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Ain Shams University and Chair of the General Egyptian Book Organization. Riad has been teaching at Ain Shams, Modern Sciences and Arts University and the American University in Cairo for the last 35 years. His research interests include cultural and translation studies and modern Egyptian literature. He is currently editor-in-chief of WASLA, a new translation magazine that builds bridges between world cultures and is issued monthly by the General Egyptian Book Organization.

In his deeply insightful and cross-disciplinary talk, Moustafa Riad critiques Samuel Huntington's infamous theory of the Clash of Civilizations using the inter-cultural nature of Cairo's urban architecture as proof.
