ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dr. Rana el Kaliouby is a Research Scientist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where she invents technologies that measure and communicate emotion. In 2006, her research, developing technologies that help individuals on the autism spectrum with social communication, was rated one of the top 100 inventions of the year by the New York Times. She has been featured in Wired, New Scientist, Slashdot, Boston Globe, New York Times and others. She holds a B.Sc and M.Sc in Computer Science, The American University in Cairo and a PhD in Computer Science from University of Cambridge.
Her goal is to develop technologies that improve the lives of people with mental health and developmental disorders such as autism, and accelerate scientific research that advance our understanding of these conditions.
