Hassan Azzazy is a tenured full professor of Chemistry at the American University in Cairo.
Prior to joining AUC in 2003, Dr. Azzazy was a faculty member at University of Maryland (UM) School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD. He has served as the director of biotechnology discipline at the Medical & Research Technology department (UM), the chairman of Chemistry department, the founding director of M.Sc. Chemistry program, and the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies & Research (AUC). Then received his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, TX (1994).
He holds two board certifications in Clinical Chemistry and Molecular Diagnostics from the American Board of Clinical Chemistry, Washington, DC.
He is the founder of the Novel Diagnostics & Therapeutics Research group at and the director of the International Medical Technologists training program at AUC
He has over 22 years of biomedical research experience with a focus on developing novel diagnostics, for detection of infectious agents and cancer, and synthesis of smart drug nanocarriers. Dr. Azzazy has over 120 scientific publications and received several awards including Excellence in Research and Creative Award and Excellence in Teaching Award (AUC). In 2011 he has received the prestigious State Prize in Advanced Technological Sciences from the National Academy for Scientific Research & Technology.
